At Mille Fleurs we believe that wearing a beautiful hat reveals something about you and we are passionate about bringing that to life.

With our bespoke millinery service, you choose the outfit and we design the headpiece to suit, taking into careful consideration colour and style, venue, face shape and proportions, hairstyle, balance and, of course, your personality. It is a hat handcrafted exclusively for you – a hat that so many of our clients go on to cherish, reuse or have redesigned for many years afterwards.

We use traditional techniques, learned from the very best in British millinery, in the creation of all our occasion hats. We hand block and stitch each piece from start to finish; we hand dye all our straws, silks and feathers to perfectly match and/or complement outfit choice. The result is a beautiful, unique creation you will wear with pride.

How does our bespoke millinery service work?

Initially please contact us to book an appointment via email hello@millefleurs.uk or phone 01959 525501. Dependent on your preference you will then visit our Tunbridge Wells or Otford (nr Sevenoaks) shop for a relaxed and positive consultation. 

This initial meeting will take about 45 minutes, during which we will:

  • Discuss the occasion and venue.
  • Take a look at your outfit for the occasion. Please bring your entire outfit to the consultation, or, if this isn’t possible, a fabric swatch so we can colour match perfectly.  We ask you to leave either the outfit or swatch with us until you return for your fitting appointment.
  • Discuss your ideas for a hat that will make you feel confident, comfortable and look stunning. You will have the opportunity to try on lots of different styles from our current collection to inspire you and for us to get a sense of what you like and don’t like, what suits you and what works well with your outfit.   
  • Measure your head to ensure the hat fits comfortably for the entire occasion.
  • We put everything into the mix to propose a design to suit you and your brief perfectly. You pay a 50% deposit; we then make your hat by hand in our on-site workshop, which takes about 6 weeks, or 6-8 weeks during peak times (in the run-up to Royal Ascot in June, for example).
  • Return for a fitting to check the size and balance of the hat – this is a critical part of the process, to ensure the hat is comfortable and looks perfect from all angles. Once happy, you pay the remaining 50% and take your unique creation away to be admired – both on the day and in photographs for years to come.
